Soon the Montana Board of Crime Control (MBCC) will begin installation of a new Montana National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) Repository and an integrated Web-Based Data Entry Application. Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office in southeast Louisiana is lowering severe crime and traffic accident rates by analyzing data to guide personnel deployment. The agency is one of seven demonstration sites nationwide for an emerging model of policing called Data-Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS). The DDACTS model is straightforward: map the times and places where serious crimes and major traffic accidents occur, look for overlap to identify hot spots, and direct deployment of law enforcement personnel toward those areas. The Union County Sheriff's Office Communication Center is using a new technology to alert local fire and ambulance responders when emergencies arise. The solution, a pre-formatted texting and e-mailing system, is a new feature integrated with the ledsSuite software already used by the UCSO Communication Center to record and dispatch calls.
