Riding Along with Zuercher Mobile

Not too long ago, a coworker and I had the privilege to ride along with a patrol officer from one of our client agencies. This was an opportunity for us to gain a firsthand viewpoint of how Zuercher Mobile is used in the field, and how specific interfaces for NCIC queries and eCitations support an officer’s duties.
I got the pleasure of riding in the back seat and didn’t even have to wear the cuffs this time. After a little conversation about what we were hoping to gain from this experience and some questions for us about new development on the Zuercher Technologies’ horizon, we hit the road.
"We’ll cruise around, write a couple citations, and get into the full flow of how I use Zuercher Mobile,” the officer said. Once we were on station, it was only a couple minutes before a speeder was locked in on radar. The officer radioed to dispatch, started a Call for Service (CFS) in Zuercher Mobile CAD, started his video recording, and pulled over the speeder.
Once the officer was back in the patrol car with the driver’s license and registration in hand, the business we came to see really unfolded. The driver’s license was scanned, parsing the data into Mobile CAD. From here, a quick run of the driver’s license and vehicle registration queries from Mobile CAD returned the driver and vehicle information. After verifying there weren’t any additional wants or warrants, the officer moved from Mobile CAD to the eCitations window. The DL and vehicle registration details from the NCIC returns were already waiting. Talk about a time saver! From this point, all the officer had to do was enter the location, violation and citation type, and save the citation.
The ticket was immediately printed and also had its data recorded in Zuercher Suite and Zuercher Mobile. The officer delivered the hardcopy citation to the driver, and returned to the patrol car. He then popped back in to his active CFS window, marked himself as "Available”, and closed the CFS with a disposition of "Citation Issued.” Just like that, we were off to repeat the process.
Being able to watch an officer go through the all the steps and to see exactly how eCitations ties into Zuercher Mobile and Zuercher Suite really helped us to gain a better understanding of the things that are important to our Mobile users. In addition, we were able to discuss several ideas with the officer to improve the user experience for working with Zuercher Mobile and eCitations.
The ride-along was good for all of us. My coworker and I were able to better understand how everything works from the officer’s point of view. The officer was able to provide us with immediate feedback on the system, and we all got to feel the power hidden under the hood of his new cruiser.
It really was a joy to ride along with an officer who uses our software in his daily duties.
