The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office (LA) has chosen Zuercher Technologies to implement their Motor Carrier Accountability Model (MCAM). The MCAM project will allow the Sheriff’s Office to provide every officer with a rugged mobile handheld touch-screen wireless unit loaded with ledsCAD, ledsRecords, and E-Citation software. The addition of the mobile units will provide increased efficiency, productivity, and officer safety.
The mobile handheld units will be available to all officers in addition to their traditional Mobile Data Terminals within their units, giving them another tool to increase enforcement and accountability and help reduce and eliminate errors. Officers will be able to accomplish a multitude of tasks including, but not limited to, issuing E-Citations, completing investigative field questionnaires, logging property and evidence, running NCIC queries, and completing drivers license scans.
Captain Scott Silverii, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, stated that "the handheld units will give the officer a way to untether himself from the in car computer, increasing mobility and efficiency while still accessing the RMS.” He believes that this will "provide increased officer safety with the ability to swipe a card or run a name and immediately know who they are dealing with.”
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office anticipates implementation in 2011.
